Benjamin South, tenor, is a versatile crossover artist from Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Most recently as an Emerging Artist with the Seagle Festival, he performed the roles of Charlie Dalrymple in Brigadoon and Teague in Higdon’s Cold Mountain. Other notable roles include Sam Polk in Susannah, Eddie Birdlace in Dogfight, Theodore Lawrence in Adamo’s Little Women, and Nemorino in The Elixir of Love.
As a concert artist, Benjamin has had the privilege of being the tenor soloist for Mozart’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Dett’s The Chariot Jubilee, and several Bach cantatas. A strong advocate for contemporary music, Benjamin has been involved in many different workshops, performances, and premieres of new works. Benjamin is currently pursuing a D.M.A. in Performance & Pedagogy from the University of Colorado Boulder where he studies with Matthew Chellis. Additionally, he is completing the Vocology Certificate at New York University. He holds a M.M. in Voice Performance & Pedagogy from Ohio University where he studied voice with Daniel Stein. He also holds a B.M. in Voice Performance from the University of North Alabama where he studied with Gretchen Windt. |
